How we began...
Calvary Bible Institute Japan is an affiliate of Calvary Bible Institute (Main campus in Joshua Springs, California). We have been located in Okinawa Japan for over 20 years. CBI Japan, (formerly CCBC Japan), was founded by Pastor Tommy Ruiz and his wife Joanna as they moved to the island from Corona, California to plant a church and raise the next generation in the Word of God.
CBI Japan resides alongside Calvary Chapel Ginowan to accomplish the will of God in loving the people of the church. Since the beginning of Calvary Chapel Ginowan many locals and international students have attended classes, served in the church, and graduated, moving on to new pastures from CBI Japan's ministry. We offer a one-year program matching Joshua Springs with the possibility to transfer credits. Our students attend our school one semester at a time (16 weeks each).

It is our heart to disciple our students in Jesus and bring them into a closer relationship with Him. We believe that God has called us to equip the next generation to become servant leaders and able to disciple others.
We are a missionary campus that models life on the mission field. All of our teachers and pastors serve as missionaries in full-time ministry, and during their time at CBI Japan, students live alongside them and experience the realities of ministry firsthand.
CBI Japan is designed to equip those whom God has called into missions. Through in-depth Bible study, outreach, and practical ministry experience, students develop a biblical foundation while preparing for a lifetime of serving Christ.
Throughout the program, students study the entire Word of God and gain a deeper understanding of its central role in both life and ministry. As they serve, they experience both the sacrifices and the blessings of ministering to the body of Christ while learning what it means to seek first the kingdom of God. More than half of CBI graduates go on to serve in churches and ministries around the world in a wide variety of roles.
So whether the Lord calls you onto the missions field or to serve at your local church, our purpose is to prepare you for active ministry all over the world.
